CPAP- Continuous Pressure Airway Pressure

Its is respiratory ventilation used for treatment of sleep apnea.
Sleep apnea is a condition or disorder that causes a patients airway to become restricted as the patients muscles relax naturally during sleep. The patient experiences repeated pauses in breathing during sleep, each lasting long enough so one or more breaths are missed.

The PAP machine prevents arousal from sleep by delivering a stream of compressed air via a face mask so that unobstructed breathing becomes possible.

Those who are at greater risk for sleep apnea are patients who are obese or those who may have a nasal obstruction (such as polyps)

Hope this helps, Best of Luck

It's actually CPAP, prounounced "C-PAP." This is an acronym, not an aparate. It stands for "Continuous positive air pressure." It's a treatment for sleep apnea. The person wears a mask hooked to a machine.

Some people stop breathing during their sleep. It can be caused by the airway collapsing, often among overweight people. The positive air pressure keeps the airway open so they can breathe without having to partially wake up and snort to breathe, or just snore the whole night.

CPAP stands for continuous positive air pressure. It is a small machine that 'pushes' air to prevent airway collapse for people who suffer from sleep apnea.

The slightly increased air pressure keeps the airway open in the pause between breaths for patients while they sleep.
