and no you cannot claim it back from the taxman either if the travelling was for your business

VAT is charged on Train Travel within the UK. Air Travel has no VAT but incurs a Passenger Duty charge which is is a set amount per ticket (different amts for domestic / international).

Airlines are not VAT registered.

Yes it is, but, more importantly, does anyone remember when VAT was introduced.

It was supposed to be a tax on luxury, non essential purchases!

Funny how things change and we forget!!

Yes it is. I believe the only goods and services VAT is not payable on is food you get from a supermarket and children's educational material.

this government charges on every thing including trains they would charge for breathing if they had the chance
