I am buying a house in Louisiana that has new beams with some seperation occuring per the house inspector. He recommend a moisture barrier be installed and there is inadequate ventilation in the crawl space. Please advise.

Not quite sure what the separation issue is. Are the beams built-up laminated material that have been nailed together, or dimensional lumber? Would need more info regarding that.

If the crawlspace has a dirt floor, then you would need a 6 mil black (preferably) plastic to cover the floor. International Residence Code says that for every 150 sq. ft. of floor space you need 1 sq. ft. of ventilation. Note that this is minimum. The more ventilation you can install, the better you are.
