Our family changed its name from Probert to Roberts at the beginning of the century and I was wondering if anybody had any informaion regarding the geneology of this name. Thankyou.

By searching for Probert, you can find GENFORUM sites where people are interested in that name specifically. Names change over time, a letter here or there. To be expected in Genealogy. So, follow the leads you get. Here are several.

There are literally thousands of Proberts listed on ancestry.co.uk.

A very high proportion of them were born in Wales, or in the English counties close to Wales (like Herefordshire and Gloucestershire).

The surname dictionary on ancestry says the name is Welsh and was originally Ap-Robert, meaning son of Robert.

You will need to find where they originally came from I ve Probert's in my family from Herefordshire early 1800's.
