If you don't know or can't use propper grammar, don't answer. I don't like sorting through peoples poorly written opinions. Thanks.

Kitty- Of course they'll sell it to anyone for the mighty dollar. That's why "legal" is in my question; as in can the claim be collected.

I do not think so. You can call 1-800-375-5283 and then when the recording starts press 1-2-4-0 and then hold for a real person in the department and they can answer this for sure. But I'm pretty sure in the process of applying for Life Insurance that they would have to show that they at least have a work visa. Hope this helps

Let's just say, there's nothing against the LAW that would keep an insurance company from selling a policy to an illegal immigrant. It's not a question on the application (ie, "are you in the US legally").
However, I don't know of any that are willing to sell an insurance policy to someone without a social security number. That's not necessarily a problem - illegals CAN get a social security number. There is more of a problem obtaining underwriting information, and depending on how short of a time they've been in the US, there won't be any medical records.

It depends on your country of citizenship - transactions from some countries are banned. You of course will need proper identification to proof who you are, a financial reason for the insurance, and the insurance company will have to be able to get access to medical records, but beyond that, you shouldn't have any trouble. If you are honest in the application process and the insurance company accepts you, there should be no problems in making a death claim (at least after the typical two year contestable period), other than delays that may occur if the beneficiary must do everything through the mail.

The illegals I KNOW have numerous social security cards so I am betting YES they can get insurance as well.
Now to collect on the "loss of life" claim may be difficult but an agent will certainly love taking the money for policy it self.

I don't know if this applies but, If you purchase automobile insurance and you do not drive the car in the area that you state on the insurance, you will not be covered. So it is likely that if you purchase insurance on your life but some aspect of what is in the fine print is not fulfilled by you, then the insurance company can refuse to pay. In otherwords check the contract before signing on the dotted line.

If you live in the Southwest or California especially near the border, lots of banks accept the Mexican National ID card to open accounts and other services, so you can purchase life insurance through the bank in that case.
