Well weemaryan - as far as I can tell it's not a bad thing to let anyone know where you stand on any issue. I don't think either is worse. It just means that you get to choose wot you want to do. Know the person or not know the person that admits to either of these things. Lots of atheists are good people - so are a lot of racists. Some people are just victims of their environments. Have we become the judge of other people's values? Of other peoples' right to choose? We allegedly live in a democracy which dictates that we have the right to choose. So long as neither of these values hurts anyone, no-one is absolutely right.

Admitting you're a racist, by far. There's nothing wrong with atheism. It doesn't hurt anyone. At least, last time I checked it wasn't atheists who headed up the Crusades and the Inquisition, and atheists didn't come up with the idea of Manifest Destiny that gave American settlers the "right" to steal land from the Native Americans.

Racism clearly hurts people. African Americans didn't get lynched in the last century because they believed in God. They got lynched because of the color of their skin. And most of the people who did the lynching were - surprise surprise! - Christians, not atheists.

Being a racist is by far worse. Atheists harm no one and the choice they have made (to deny the existance of a deity) is a personal one. Racists, on the other hand, make life hard for people who are different.

They're both pretty bad, but I would have to go withracist, because even though both are highly illogical, maybe the athiest doesn't believe there is enough evidence to prove that there is a God, which I can understand if not agree with. But a racist deeply hates someone because they turned out to be darker or lighter than them????????This makes no sense

In this society it would be proclaiming you're an atheist.

There are no laws saying racists can't hold public office.

Not sure how you came up with this comparison. There's nothing wrong with Atheism. Racism, on the other hand, is a complete lack of compassion for your fellow man. And a lack of intelligence (come on, hating someone because of race/skin color/cultural background is Stupid). Racism is, by far, much worse than Atheism is.

A racist is a bad person - they are prejudiced.

An Atheist is someone who rejects all religions.

A religious person is someone who rejects all religions except one.

And finally, a prejudiced person is someone who assumes that a person is bad because of one characteristic. A good example of a prejudiced person would be someone who equates an atheist with a racist (like your question does)

Both are sins and both can be forgiven. However, an atheist can be a good person outside of his conscience decision to turn his back on God, while a racist is simply a low form of life with an ignorant mentality.

Well, since no war was ever started in the name of atheism...but MANY wars have been started over religious-based racism, I would have to say being a racist.
