as you may have seen in my other question im currently compleating a university aerospace design project. this project involved attching a total head probe to an aircraft and route the appropriate pipes and electrical cables towards the apropriate areas.

the one part im confused with the the choice of pipe to be used, my lecturer said that any old pvc pipe will do (must be flexable BTW) but im thinking as it will be in a preasurised cabin it will be crushed under the differance in preasure.

any ideas?

PVC pipe is used in water applications and typical household water pressure is around 60 psid. What is the pressure difference your airplane will see? Typically airplanes have an 8000 ft cabin altitude at their maximum certified ceiling. Depending on their ceiling, you can expect 5-8 psid. Even if you were working on an airplane that maintained sea level cabin all the way to outer space, the pressure differential would be less than 15 psi. You should be fine with the PVC.

For a undertaking like this you are going to be able to desire to apply especially much something as long as each and every of the connections are air-tight. basically pass on your community ironmongery save and p.c.. up some versatile water strains oftentimes white or sparkling and use this for the static area. Then on your community vehicle save and ask for some rubber hoses. This hoses would be produced from percentand many times have a one hundred twenty-a hundred and fifty psi score and use this on your tension area and you additionally can use this on the static area. as a results of workers protection, you adult men are no longer pressurizing the cabin a form of psi. i do no longer even know why you will pressurize the cabin in any respect on account that there is not any reason to realize this which you are going to be able to desire to purpose a pitot static gadget. it certainly relies upon on the kit you would be applying. verify the altimeter and discover out if it has a 20K to 30K altitude scale. that's in all probability what you're applying and if so the interior bellows would be harm in the previous you fall down a line. it is the altimeter used on non pressurized acfts and you are going to be able to desire to certainly use laptop virus clamps or tywraps to guard your hoses. yet once you're applying a 50K to 55K altimeter, then you definitely extra beneficial start up practising you metallic tubing bending and flearing innovations. The strains and hoses suggested above are very equivalent to those used interior the genuine international. the only difference that the property you purchase regionally isn't FAA-PMA authorized. yet all you're doing is a school undertaking. So I noticeably doubt the airworthiness of the probe, altimeter and airspeed indicator you're applying. the only electric powered wires you ought to have are the wires for the heating factor on the static probe and that's trouble-free.

PVC pipe is used for loads of pressure related situations, you just need one that can take the pressure difference at say 40,000 feet to ntp not one complete Bar.

The pvc pipe can take a lot more pressure than the pilot. Even in absolute vacuum it is only 15psid.
