When you're talking cat odors, I'm assuming you mean urine. DO NOT USE AMMONIA!!! Cat urine smells a lot like ammonia, and not only will it not remove the odor, it will encourage the cat to pee there again.

Honestly, if you really want to get rid of pet odors you need to forget the homemade remedies, bite the bullet, and buy a product made especially for removing them. In cats, the urine needs to be neutralized by a special enzyme or it will always linger, and it will lure the cats back to pee there again. I just ordered something from Petco called Dumb Cat - it's made specifically for removing urine odors and for discouraging the cat from peeing there again. It isn't cheap, and you have to buy two bottles at a time, but it got great reviews.

Well, it's not homemade, but i have one that works! Woolite makes a pet odor/stain remover (with Oxygen) and i don't know how i would survive without it! It's gotten up stains that were in our carpet when we moved in - stuff that nothing else was able to get out - muddy pawprints, and umm... vomit stains. It even gets out the 'cat pee' smell! I just *drenched* the area and let it dry - you'd never even know it was there in the first place. Really good stuff. Kudos to whomever made it up. It's only like, $4 at Walmart, and it's worth every penny... we keep a few bottles on hand for 'accidents.' Hope that helps!

I've found that quite often for removing odors and stains from carpeting, regular shampoo like you would use for your hair, rubbed into the carpet with a very wet sponge, works wonders.

Hydrogen peroxide works extremely nicely. it somewhat is going to foam up a sprint once you pour it on the affected section. All you will desire to do is take a scrubbing brush and scrub the section for a jiffy, then enable dry. It make take countless purposes in the previous the scent completely is going away, even inspite of the shown fact that it somewhat is extra helpful than vinegar, which makes your place scent extra like a deli.

Plain white vinegar.

Add a few cups of it to your laundry and - wha la. If it's super bad you may have to wash twice.

And use it for cleaning - full strength and then rinse. Gets rid of odors.

I don't have a cat, but I use ammonia mixed with water for lots of things, dog poop, vomit, washing windows, and mixed with cold water it's the best thing there is for blood. Hot water will cook the blood in.
