hated it. I actually have a really important dinner tonight, so I can't go like this. I couldn't manage to tell him I disliked his work, coz he took an hour to finish up with it. But now I can't afford going to another hair dresser for a redo. Can I actually walk back in to the first salon and ask for a redo? Do I have to pay for it again if he took another hour to come out with the result I was looking for initially? Please help...

You need to go back to that salon and tell him the truth, you don't have to say it in a rude way but just let him know you are not satisfied. it's their job to make you happy and give you what you want; you paid your money for him to do your hair in a certain way and you didn't get the results you wanted, you have to be very specific with stylists, he should do this for you with no problem and you better not pay him another dime. If you look at it he doesn't want an unsatisfied customer because he wants you to return and possibly bring him business by telling other people you know, he won't want you to tell people not to come to him so he should have absolutely no problem doing it over. I have done this before and the stylist was happy to redo my hair and I didn't even come back until the next day because my hair had fell.

I cut my hair a couple of years ago. It was down to under my bust line and when I finished it looked absolutely horrid and was way shorter than I wanted it to be. In a mixture of pride, shyness and plain stupidity I remained silent and went home and cried about it.. although hair DOES grow back, I really regretted not saying anything at the time. So my advice is this: even though it might be incredibly awkward - go back and make them fix it! It IS their job after all.

If the salon is a member of the National Hairdresser's Federation, then ring the local office and ask their advice - they are probably worth ringing anyway.

Hairdressers prefer you to tell them immediately if you are dissatissfied with your hair and they will do all they can to make it how you want it. Bring in photos from magazines of how you would like it so they can better understand you. If they have time when you go back I'm sure they will fix it. Just explain...
