b/c the moon is revolving around the earth, and as it approaches or recedes from the side of the earth facing the sun, they both appear in the sky from your vantage point. if you were living on the moon, the earth would always be visible, but the sun would only be visible 1/2 month -- and the other half your back would be to it. the sun would rise and take 15 days to set. you only see both the moon and sun in the sky when the moon is a waxing or waning gibbous

What is odd about this? The sun and the moon have nothing to do with each other. At any time 1/2 the planet can see the moon and 1/2 can see the sun but these are separate from each other so 1/4 of the time you can see both and 1/4 of the time you can see neither. (ignoring cloud and such like).
When the moon is new or nearly new it is difficult to see because it will appear near the sun but it is still there.

happens all the time, moon on one side of the sky sun on other. happens at dawn and dusk. you may be talking about an eclipse?
the moon orbits the earth at a dif speed the earth orbits the sun, so every once in a while, the moon blocks the sun, which is sweet!! and sometimes the earth blocks the moon from the sun, for some reason making it orange.

I remember seeing a bright moon and sun at the same height above the horizon in Germany. Think the moon was full, I'd have to check mail. Much interested to know more about it.

Where did you go to school? Everybody knows that the moon is the back side of the Sun. When you see the moon during the day, you are actually seeing a double reflection of the back side of the Sun (the Moon) which is reflected off the interior surface of the "Firmament" (Where God keeps the water he used for Noah's flood) it is then re-reflected to the opposite interior side of the Firmament where it appears normal in the sky. I hope this explains it for you.
