Jihad means struggle, it does not mean war. You can struggle against an opponent who attacks you. Jihad is only for defensive purposes. For more details check this site out.

For the person that said the Bible doesn't condone war:
For the land of Israel lies empty and broken after your attacks, but the LORD will restore its honor and power again. Shields flash red in the sunlight! The attack begins! See their scarlet uniforms! Watch as their glittering chariots move into position, with a forest of spears waving above them. The chariots race recklessly along the streets and through the squares, swift as lightning, flickering like torches. The king shouts to his officers; they stumble in their haste, rushing to the walls to set up their defenses. But too late! The river gates are open! The enemy has entered! The palace is about to collapse! Nineveh's exile has been decreed, and all the servant girls mourn its capture. Listen to them moan like doves; watch them beat their breasts in sorrow. Nineveh is like a leaking water reservoir! The people are slipping away. "Stop, stop!" someone shouts, but the people just keep on running. Loot the silver! Plunder the gold! There seems no end to Nineveh's many treasures – its vast, uncounted wealth. Soon the city is an empty shambles, stripped of its wealth. Hearts melt in horror, and knees shake. The people stand aghast, their faces pale and trembling. (Nahum 2:2-10 NLT)
"Go up, my warriors, against the land of Merathaim and against the people of Pekod. Yes, march against Babylon, the land of rebels, a land that I will judge! Pursue, kill, and completely destroy them, as I have commanded you," says the LORD. "Let the battle cry be heard in the land, a shout of great destruction". (Jeremiah 50:21-22 NLT)
There are plenty more.

"Jihad" is an Arabic word, and the Quran is written in Arabic and Islam is an Arab religion, which is why Jihad is in the Quran.
Whilst because of the news media most non-Muslims think of Jihad in terms of physical warfare, in Islam it actually has a wider meaning. It can mean the inner spiritual struggle that one experiences when trying to live a Godly life.
The use of warfare as an analogy of the struggle to lead a Godly life is also found in other religions, for example in Christianity where songs like "Onward Christian Soldiers" or "We are soldiers in the army" are not really about waging a physical holy war although they sound rather militant.

that would count on no count in case you're Catholic or Protestant. To us Catholics, the Bible isn't any doubt one in each and every of the techniques that God has revealed Himself, alongside with Sacred custom and the instructions of the Church. Sacred custom and church coaching does not (and definitely can not) bypass against what the Bible teaches, yet neither do they count completely on what has been written in Scripture. In that experience, the be conscious is dynamic -- ever residing and ever revealing extra approximately Himself to us. Protestants generally have self assurance in "Sola Scriptura," or "with the aid of Scripture on my own." in spite of having a history of classic worship varieties (borrowed generally from Catholicism), the Protestant church claims to be completely based on the Bible for revelation of certainty. this could be effective. . .different than there does not seem plenty consensus approximately what that exposed "certainty" relatively is. as an occasion, one denomination might have self assurance that Communion is an uncomplicated memorial service, on an identical time as yet another team believes that it relatively is relatively the physique and Blood of Jesus after the climate are consecrated. and because there are maximum of translations of the Bible, one church might insist that the KJV is the only appropriate version, on an identical time as somebody else will say that the NIV is the perfect translation. the warm button is that Catholic Christianity is a faith of the residing and holy be conscious, who's Jesus Christ. Protestant Christianity might deny it, yet all too generally, they seem to be a faith of the e book. . .in the event that they might in basic terms agree on which version and what it says.

That is because Christianity, and the old testament Jewish religion only believe in fighting defensive wars. Jihad is an offensive war.
