My boyfriend is with his family for the holidays in another state. We didn't plan on talking and neither of us has called, except to say Merry Christmas. Is this normal, or do we not care about each other?

Might be normal for you. Every couple is different. I would pose the question back to you - do you care about each other? If so, don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

It seems as if something in your relationship does not work well... I don't think that not talking to each other for a week, because he is away, is normal between a couple. Really, don't you have any news to tell him or just that you have missed him or... or... or...? Nothing at all?!
It is good to spend some days separate though, as this could make both of you understand how much you care for each other, but having nothing to share but a 'Merry Christmas' sounds a kind of strange...
Your relationship needs something fresh! Work it out before it's too late.
I'm not a specialist in relationships. Just my opinion...

It is not normal if you are dating and living together. There must be some wrong with both of you or you guys are not actually in love. Even if he is on holidays, that does not mean you should not communicate with each other if you are truly in love. I believe that with the distance, you should crave for each other more than before.

Wrong category. Hmmm, I wonder if something (or somebody) else is going on with you two? A week is not normal. Are you dating or living together? One should not live with someone that they are just dating.

A good relationship centers on good communication. Not talking to each other for long periods of time should not be encouraged.

It could be that he is too busy but that would not be an excuse not to call you and vice versa. Obviously he doesn't care.
