Give the kid gifts on his or her birthday, be available when he or she wants someone to talk to, and take responsibility in case both parents die or become incapacitated.

You are also responsible for seeing that the parents do not neglect the child's moral upbringing. That may mean affirmatively seeking out quiet time to talk about aspects of moral values and principles that may seem to be neglected. If either parent is in trouble or has problems, you are there for the kid, but try be supportive of respect for both parents.

In a divorce battle, it is your job to take the kid's side, even if that enrages both parents.

In my church the godparents stand up with the parents when the child is baptized and promise to help make sure the child is raised in the church. Some people consider the godparents to be the people they want to be their child's guardian if they die, but this has to be in their will. If someone has asked you to be a godmother to their child then you might just ask them exactly what responsibilities that has. They may just want you to be someone who is "like a mother" to their child, but if they are listing you in their will as guardian to their child then you need to know and let them know if you aren't ok with that.

A God Mother, is there to take responibility and raise a child, should something happrn to thei parents. In ideal cases, they're close to the child(ren) and have the same relationship as an aunt or uncle would. This way, the child(ren) have grown to know and love this adult. In the tragic case that they need to step in as gaurdians, they already know how parents would have wanted their child(ren) raised.

It really depends on what the parents expect of you. If you have been asked to be the GodMother, I would suggest sitting down with the parents and asking them.

I was just given this honor and wanted to be certain what it entailed. For my friends, it meant they wanted me to be there for the child as it grew up, provide guidance and friendship, but it also meant that if anything happened to them, my husband and I would take care of the child for them. This is a huge responsibility and if it is what they are expecting from you, you all need to be clear!!!!

GIVE THE KIDS GIFTS FOR EVERY OCCASION UNTIL THE DAY YOU DIE -

IT'S SUPPOSED TO MEAN THAT IF BOTH PARENTS DIE THEN THE GODPARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CHILD'S RELIGIOUS UPBRINGING
