Don't worry too much.... Cats are teritorial in nature, so the older one won't like it too much when a new guy shows up. The hissing will continue for a little bit and then they'll have a real cat fight one day. I know you won't like it, but it's their way of figuring out who is in charge. Then they will be ok. Trust me. I have 3 cats right now and they all get along now. If they really don't get along, they will learn how to co-exist. They will learn to stay away from each other. Try buying some kitty treats for them and give them the treats when they're in the same room. I've had cats my whole life and I know that they can learn to get along.

This is *very* common and, assuming your resident cat isn't too old and set in her ways, it almost always passes. One way to help is to put the kitten in a separate room for a day, so that they can sniff each other under the door without contact. The next day, use door-stops (those triangular rubber things) to prop the door open just an inch or so, so that they can touch noses and pat paws through the door. On the third day, assuming the cats don't seem to hate each other too much, you let the kitten out and see what happens. When I did this, my older cat complained and followed the kitten for a few hours, but within another day they were starting to play together.

Completely normal. Most cats get upset when you bring in a new kitten.
Keep an eye on them, make sure that the older cat doesn't frighten or harm the kitten and that she has somewhere to go to where the kitten can't bother her. Make sure the kitten isn't pestering her too much, but otherwise leave them alone. If it's just a case of normal "newcomer hate", it usually takes somewhere between 2-7 days for the cats to accept each other.
The liking each other is another matter entirely, they might love each other or they might merely accept the other's presence.

They will...but it could take alot of time. I had a kitten i had to lock away from an adult once at night as I was sure she'd eat her! But they became good friends after about a year! How old is your kitty? Has he had a kitty friend before? Those are factors that may mean the process is quicker or slower. The hissing could go on for awhile though, but hopefully soon they will be the best of mates!

A female cat is very territorial and she sees the new one as an intruder. But I had this same situation with 2 of my cats, and eventually they did learn to get along, in fact they became very close. If you have an extra room you can separate the new kitty in, especially when you are not home, that works really well. Make sure he has food, water, his litter box, toys, and a place to sleep. Then when you're home, make sure they spend time with each other with you supervising, and they will eventually get along. It will take time and patience. Good luck!

they will make peace with each other...your resident is just posturing and making sure the kitten knows he is the dominant animal. They will realize that they are both going to be there and will settle in. Takes time. You might want to keep them in separate areas for a while until they get more comfortable. Introduce them slowly. Your resident does not like the fact that he has to share turf.

Your resident cat is trying to assert his or her dominance as the master of the house. They will probably have it out at one point and the victor will be the alpha! My cat did this and once the kitten submitted, they were best friends!

Yup they will...it just takes time for them to warm up to each other. They are like 2 strangers bein forced to live together.
They will be best budies when ur female cat gets over the fact its not just her house anymore.

Dun worry, this happens all the time. Mostly b'coz the cat is unfamiliar with ur kitten. Give it some time.. and they will be buddies in no time.
