I own two five month old kittens, ones a boy and ones a girl. My Mum says they don't need to get "fixed" untill the middle of next month, but by then they'll be six and a half months old, they're fine now but I'm terrofied of finding them "at it" one day. And I really don't want kittens espeshily inbred ones will they be ok untill the middle of January?

They should be fine. Cats usually come in heat the 1st time between 6 -9 months, but cat's heat cycles are based on the seasons. If you are in the U.S., cats come in heat around Valentine's Day to the middle of September generally. So mid-January is fine to have them spayed & neutered.

Definitely get them fixed as soon as you can. Sexual maturity can happen at any time after 6 months of age. If money is an issue, have the male fixed first so he won't get the notion to spray. Cat neuters are pretty fast and easy to do, so it usually costs a lot less to neuter a boy than it does to spay a girl. After 6 months, your female could go into heat, which is the most obnoxious annoying thing you could ever experience with a cat. Many female cats get pregnant because the owners toss them outside in the middle of the night because they've been yowling nonstop for days and days, and the owner just wants to get some sleep.

Some cats are ok to mate when they are 5 months old, i think u should get them fixed as soon as possible. My male cat mated with my female when he was 5 months & she 6. I dont think u should wait to much longer definately get them fixed by the time there 6 months.

Any animal can be spayed and nurred as early as 13 weeks, so whoever says wait 6 or 7 months is alittle off...you just have to find a vet that will do it. Most vets dont, but it is possiable and there are people out that that actually care about animals. Also, if they are brother and sister, that wont mate. Thats like us going out and going "at it" with out brother or sister...ewww... So you have nothing to worry about.

They should be fine until next month. Mostly watch the male if his testicles have come out or are coming out watch him, cause he might start trying to mate with his sister, but don't worry when the kittens turn 6 months old they should be ready for sterilization, take them to a vet clinic and see if they will sterilize them. If your males testicle are visible but he is not ready to be sterilized, and he wants to mate separate them or keep a close watch on them.

you should be very worried, cats go into heat by the age of 6 months and even earlier, it is best to get the cats spayed and neutered before the cats "get it on" and you have kittens around your house that you dont know what to do with. also it will cost more to get the female spayed when she is in heat. and the male will start to spray around the house which really stinks and i do mean that literally.

I rescued a pregnant 5 month old recently...they can get pregnant as young as 4 months and do. I would definitely have at least 1 done now. Maybe the vet can talk to your mum as I'm sure he/she will assure her that kitties frequently get pregnant at 4-5 months. There are so many unwanted kittens being euthanized each day, so please do what you can to get the info to your mom from the vet if she won't listen to you!

January should be OK. Cat's don't normally start breeding until spring. Having said that if they are living indoors it may bring on a premature season. Unless they are very small you should be able to get them done now if you are concerned.

As soon as they are 6 months you should have the male one done which will stop him toming as well as the girl kitty, it also protects them against diseases, i have 2 kitties who are brothers and until they were done they were at it all day long, brothers as well. My advice to you is to have them done as soon as possible. Good luck with them :)
