I've just purchased a jenday conure two days ago. He is such a sweet baby, more than one month old, but there's one problem: he lies on his back whenever he sleeps. Is that a normal behavior of conures? It freaked me out the first time I saw it, but when he was awakened, he was back on his feet. I hope it's not a sign of illness, because otherwise, he's a happy young parrot. He's got a big appetite; he loves exploring and beaking here and there. Can someone please explain? Thanks!

Hi,

Have you seen the snuggle huts and cosey cornors you can get to put in his cage? they go in there to sleep your best off getting him one of them as you will find he will go in there and sort of lay on his side to sleep,

I've never seen a bird go to sleep on his back so its a new one on me, even with all the conures i have reared i have never seen it, hes still a baby thou, they do stupid lil things like that,

I've seen them lay on there back to start playing and whatever they are so cute!, If hes eating drinking and is active like you say then you have nothing to worry about, he sounds fine to me,

Goodluck

that is normal.my jencap loves lying on her back!she loves to have her tummy rubbed.she is very happy and healthy! Ive had alley for 6 years and she still lies on her back. I had to get rid of her hut, even though she liked it because she spent too much time in it that she started to lose her feathers on her head.Within a week all feathers were growing back. That was a year ago,she still has all her feathers and is still a beautiful bird.
