MW and commercial AM radio are terms for the same frequency band: 530-1610 kHz (the extended AM band goes up to 1710 kHz). Broadcasters in this band use Amplitude Modulation (AM, for short) for transmission.

FM, for Frequency Modulation, is the term that is used for broadcast transmission on the commercial FM radio band (88.1 - 108.0 MHz).

So, the source of your confusion could be that the transmission form and the broadcast frequency band use the same term.
