Wine selection is a very subjective thing. What one person thinks is good another would gag on. Personally, if I am getting something inexpensive I tend to go for Australian or South American wines. I find Yellow Tail drinkable. It runs about $6 or $7 a bottle. I like Cabernet Sauvignon or Shiraz better than Merlot, but thats a matter of taste. They also have a nice Chardonay.

What do you like? Do you prefer sweet wine or dry wine? If you prefer dry wine, you should look for a merlot or cabernet sauvignon in red or a chardonnay in white. If you prefer sweet wine, the only sweet red wine I know of is Riunite Lambrusco (which is a "cheap" wine) but in sweet white wines you can get riesling, spatlese, auslese, or muscat -- muscat is so sweet it is considered a "dessert wine." If you prefer something in the middle, you could get a syrah/shiraz or pinot noir in red or a zinfandel or pinot grigio in white. Here's a list of my favorite white wines, all of which you should be able to get for under $20.00 a bottle:
Fess Parker American Reserve Chardonnay
Cambria Vineyard St. Catherine's Chardonnay
Meridian Vineyards Chardonnay
Zaca Mesa Rousanne
Firestone Johannesburg Riesling
Fess Parker Muscat Canelli
Cambria Vineyard Muscat
I'm not big on red wine and don't know much about it, but my cousin (who lived in San Francisco for ten years and IS big in red wines) really goes for red wine from the various vineyards in Napa Valley, California.

Depends on what you call inexpensive. To me, a twenty dollar bottle of wine is pricey, to someone else that's the cheap stuff. That being said, if you are looking to say, fuel a party as opposed to impress at dinner, be open minded to a box wine. They range from cheap [Franzia] to not so cheap [Black Box] and can be very nice.

something Australian! I study a piece of writing that stated they are able to sell their wine greater low-fee simply by way they harvest their grapes (they do no longer hand %. the grapes). i think of Yellow Tail Chardonnay and Shiraz are super at around $6-7 a bottle. Penfolds Merlot is truly solid too approximately $8-9 a bottle. the only Australian wine i've got had that grow to be in simple terms mediocre grow to be Alice White chardonnay - no longer undesirable yet no longer as solid simply by fact the others yet nevertheless solid. base line - you are able to no longer go incorrect with Australian wines!!!

I like Funky Llama Malbec and one can usually find it under $10.00. It is very "quaffable." Yellow Tail Shiraz is cheap and good, too.

Bolla Valpolicello, Beringer White Merlot are both pretty good. First one is 'kinda' dry and second is semi-sweet.
