Also China, Australia. Is it because of the distancing from terrorist activities that has encouraged this or is the communal harmony it shares as a secular decmocracy, or is it something else like harbouring a religion that does not favour violence, or may be the great ghost of GHANDHISM. On the whole whom do we thank for such favoured status.

Its because India is one of the fast developing countries in the world..I dont think there is any other country to beat India's cultural harmony, religious tolerance and the human resource supply, be it skilled or unskilled labour..Take any place in the world and u will find a Indian in a high position (as well as in the lowest). Todays big super powers all realise that very soon India will be on par.... economy wise and development wise and hence they are offering their hands for friendship...

Lot of things coming together put India #1 in the hearts of others.

India is the country with the largest population that has a democratic elected government. Increasing trade with nations of the world.
Not threatening to destroy anybody (okay, there is the Kashmir issue and occasional disagreements with Pakistan).

The growing concerns about Muslims, China and Russia acting up with oil/gas as a weapon. Someone nearby will be needed to help offset these dangers.

And.....of all of the former colonies of Britain, France, Germany, etc - India appears to be the one that is functioning as a modern nation.

You ought to check if there is political conflict in the provinces you plan to go. A few years back Hindus and Islams were fighting in Kashmir, near the border of China.

Organized religion is going down all around. People are told they "aren't allowed to practice the Hare Krishna sect" since the Krishnas believed in geting decorated in beads and doing their hair and the barbarian look with the long hair is recommended.

People in China were told they "weren't allowed to practice Falun Gong", one of the martial arts that emphasizes footwork, during the Chinese Cultural Revolution. They are allowed to go to Tai Chi sessions in the park.

They are just mad because the Chinese govt. said the tantric cult of Falun Gong was against the law and the Indian govt agrees, that tantric yoga is "evil".

Ghandism, or non-violent resistance, to an unjust rule, doesn't mean you sit back and let the barbarians take anything they want. You can execute verbal resistance to the agressions. Ghandi started "hunger strikes" in jails that plainly meant that the evil foods of invaders was one of the things he objected to.
Ghandi is not a GHOST!

India is the largest democracy. Successive elections have shown to the world that democracy has taken roots in India. India provides huge investment opportunities and an assurance that these investments will be safe. Any country which provides these will be a favoured country.
