But Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 software is a good choice for home videos.

Haha, I like the one that comes on it: Windows video maker... but to rip videos etc I got a program called: Pinnacle video 9 ... it comes with a USB cord to hook up to your VCR, Camcorder or DVD player.

Windows XP has 'Windows Movie Maker' which for the basics might do the trick. Might be installed, but can be downloaded from the microsoft website if not installed.
