they have become damp and have traces of mould on them.

You must act very careful. Take first just one frame (or the first inches of the non-framed original film if available) to test the following cleaning methods:

- pressured air (to remove dust)
- cotton glove (to remove dust)
- diluted vinegar (to remove mould)

Moulding of the film base may have a biodeterioration effect on it and leave some visible lesions in it. If you copy your slides, you may correct these biodeteriorated areas with Photoshop or eq. If the count of your slides is low and they are very valuable, I strongly recommend you to scan them all before any chemical treatment - so you will have at least some document of them.
