I am a single mom with 1 son who is 13. Ever since the winter came around I felt he had dry skin on his entire body. Where we live the snow is packed and its very cold it, so thats probably what caused the dry skin. His skin almost feels like sandpaper its so bad.

I knew I had to get lotion, so I got Nivea Body lotion, its a new bottle easy to use and it is supposed to break down bad dry skin.

I give him short baths, and I tell him he has to apply lotion on his entire body after his bath right away. I only rub lotion on his back where he cant reach it.

But I noticed that the bottle of lotion is still just about full besides when I do his back, and his dry skin is still excatly the same and I found out he is obviously not even using lotion, his back has improved a little beacuse thats where I did it my self.

The next time I lotioned him head to toe and I thought after that he would want to do it him self. I don't know what to do anymore, please what I am to do?

He is 13 and old enough to decide if HE wants to put lotion on or not....dont sweat the small stuff.....let him make some decisions for a change.......and if you are a control freak and insist on it then, maybe buy some grown up lotion like cologne and he might not feel like a baby but a man by putting on cologne instead of girlie girl lotion.

obviously you're a mum who's very concerned with your son and i applaud you for that. he's 13. an age where he won't understand why you are doing what you're doing except that you're being naggy and overly concerned and treating him like a baby. sorry for sounding harsh but that's the sad reality of how the youth these days are. if i were you, i'll just leave it be. you've already done ur part by buying him the lotion and getting him started on it. to continue or not is his choice. however, to be careful, if his skin's condition is really veri bad, the nivea body lotion might not be enough to help. you might want to consider seeking professional help

ok firstly i strongly suggest u do not bath ur 13 year old son yourself ! unless ur son is handicapped in some way that requires you to bathe him.

and buy some lotion that is not so feminie he is 13

13 year old boys are starting puberty etc, anything that is labelled for women is not kool

there is something claled "lucas' pawpaw ointment"

its made from pawpaw /papaya its really good for dry skin a lil greasy but can be applied in the evening before bed and by the morning ur not greasy no more nor are u dry skinned

As you know you can't do anything to make your child put lotion on his skin if he doesn't want to. I have a child who has dry, itchy & flaky skin who refuses to put lotion on. Instead remove the soap from your shower & put a shower gel for dry skin or even a sorbolene soap substitute. If your son has a bath add some alpha kerry oil or anything similar. It's water dispersible so he'll never know. Good luck!

Probably the best way to have it easy and accessible to him would probably just to keep baby oil in the bathroom on the side of the tub and tell him to put it on even before he dries off. That should keep him pretty hydrated....

or they have body washes that also moisturize while you're in the shower...like body butter bath lotion from Olay.

If he's just ridiculously dry you should probably have him put on vasaline, every night before bed...that way it should last even to the next day...

tough question, i hope you did not mean YOU give him a bath, try oatmeal bath, it works great. the dry skin must not bother him too much or he would apply the lotion. I have 3 teenage boys, i have come across this same problem with my 16 yr old with acne meds from doc, but i stopped nagging and told him its up to him, he does better now but not how i would like it but we pick our battles how about body wash with moisturizer

If he is 13 years old, he should obviously know how to apply lotion. Tell him he NEEDS to, and that you are not going to put it all over his body, everyday ! I'm sure that's a burden to you, and a little uncomfortable.

He is 13, old enough to know what he should do to take care of himself. He will start doctoring his dry skin when it becomes a problem to him. Continue to put it on his back where he can't reach, but that is it

you could try changing all the soap in your house to the nivea brand as they has all the same stuff the lotion has in it and them he wont even know he is putting on to his body, could work?
