The cat has been spooked by something or someone - maybe even hurt. Just to make sure that he is physically fine, examine him. If you suspect that he could be in pain, take the cat to the vet. The hiding is not the worry - its the not eating and drinking that is the big issue right now. A cat that does not eat or drink is usually sick or in pain.
If there is nothing medically wrong with the cat, then he is very stressed out by something. Is there a new person or animal in the house? Was there a strange loud noise that could have frightened the cat? You'll need to keep the cat calm by allowing him to hide out for as long as he needs to. Just make sure that his food and water bowl are in the same room with hm - oh, and his litter box too. Keep the room he is in as quiet and peaceful as possible. Once he is convinced that there is no danger, he'll come out again and be himself.

If it is a new cat to the household this is not uncommon. You need to contain the cat in a pen or small room without furniture that it can hide in/under. It depends on the cat but it can take from a few days to a few weeks to get over its fear and be comfortable with its new surroundings.
If it has lived with you for a while then it has been tramautized and needs a safe place to hang out and lots of TLC.
Good luck!

The cat won't starve. He is afraid of his new environment. Let him get use to the place on his own. LEAVE HIM ALONE for a while. He'll come out when things have quiet down. Cats like going in dark places where they can be alone when they need a break from chaos. After a while, he will be all over the place.

Sounds like the cat has been scared of something or someone very badly. I suggest to bring food and water to the cat, and day by day you will have to make the cat feel comfortable again. The cat is only doing this out of safety and you will need to make him or her feel safe again. That would be by petting her/him reassuringly, and not making too loud of noises around her/him. It will take a while for the cat to get used to every thing again.

Could be several things wrong... Is this a new cat or one youu had for a while. Did someone accidently step on it? been mean to it at all? has it had its shots? does it growl or hiss? sounds to me like someone was mean to it and hurt it or chased it and now it is scared. I would get it and take it to the vet as soon as possible cats hide when hurt... there mybe a broken bone or anything if it was stepped on or hit or whatever may have happened. If this is a new pet it might just be scared if its a old pet get to vet asap.

First how long have you had the cat? Some times when you first get a cat, it will do that for the first week, until it gets use to its surroundings, and new house, If it is a kitten, it could be scared , because taken away from mom. just put water in a bowl, and food, and try to get him or her out that way. good luck..

Try feedim ur cat in that room, try not to scare her/him to much. If u can get her out to eat then dont make to many sounds but stay in the room so she/he gets used to havin someone around.
Make her feel safe give her some toys & make her happy.
Soon she will feel ok & will venture around the house, is she/he new?
Gd luck :D
