I think human kind is a non certainity existance. When Fuzzy Logic is a great tool to solve such problems, then think how it will be usefull to be used in product design.wooow

Fuzzy Logic (FL) is a rule-based control methodology that allows events to have partial set membership. These rules are usually simple statements like (IF A) AND (IF NOT B) THEN DO C.

One of the primary strengths of FL is in controlling non-linear systems, and can tolerate very noisy inputs. However, there are many instances where the system to be controlled is sufficiently linear that a well designed PID controller (which have been around for a long time: guess 40 years) will actually outperform a FL controller in terms of step-response, overshoot, ringing, circuit complexity, power consumption, and cost.

To get back to your question, I would have to say no. Because fuzzy logic isn't really about designing systems, it is about system control. Synthesis is a much harder and more complex problem than system control, and I would say is outside the practical limits of FL.

Sometimes engineers can get a little wrapped up in all the hype surrounding new technologies and focus only on the benifits of using FL, at the expense of lost objectivity. Here is an informative series of articles critiquing FL.

When I've seen this sort of thing done, fuzzy logic was used to evaluate candidate designs, not to generate the designs themselves. Below are some on-line examples:

Just think about how buttons should be laid out for a remote or a cellular phone. Lots of fuzzy logic thinking is going to be involved here.
