A proper noun may not be spelt wrongly neither may it be altered.
I studied at Cambridge, England, which, perhaps qualifies me to correct you a little bit.
The Anglecization Mohammet, Moslem and even Muhammed are acceptable; but mohomed is just simply wrong!

I guess, but when you misspell a proper noun, doesn't the noun lose its meaning? Or just make you look like a poor speller?
