Too bad, too sad. If you don't want the item then don't bid.

The seller is paying listing fees and final value fees on that "promise" to pay. Send them email to explain your situation and see if they'll cancel your bid. The sooner you respond the sooner they'll respond. You may be stuck with the transaction but that'll hopefully teach you that a bid is a legal contract between the buyer and seller. When I bid on items, I wait for the last 30 seconds. It's possible that someone might outbid your bid but why wait for that???

Go and retract your bid. So the previous bidder will win. It will cause less headaches as some sellers tend to go overboard when it comes to things like this.
If your not sure save to your watch list and bid later.

You can try emailing the seller. Sometimes they will not make you pay. However if they are mean and vindictive they can file a complaint against you and Ebay has the option to "suspend" your account temporarily.

You can either...cancel the bid yourself, or ask the seller to do it for you

Re-sell it on eBay and pray that there are people out there who will cover your cost. :)
