My kids used to eat our normal meals by the time they were
one. The only concession I made was to go easy on the green chillies or completely omit them from the meal.
Suji (semolina) - 1 cup
Pure ghee - 1 tbsp
Finely chopped onions -1 cup
Finely chopped green chilies - 2(do away with them when you are cooking for the baby)
Mustard seeds -1 tsp
Urad dhal -1 tsp
Hing (asafoetida) - one pinch
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Water - 2 cups
Salt to taste
Heat ghee in a pan. Season with mustard seeds, urad dhal, hing and curry leaves.(remove them before you feed the baby)
Add onions, and fry. Now add suji and fry for two minutes. Salt can be added now.. Then pour water and stir well till the upma comes out from the pan and in serving consistency.

You will require ? cup of suji, 1 tablespoon on oil, mustard seeds, onions (optional), boiled and diced vegetables (optional) and buttermilk (optional). You can also add other vegetables for taste and nutrition, such as onions, peas and carrots. First saute mustard seeds, onions and boiled vegetables (optional) in oil. Then add suji and lightly fry for a few minutes. Once brown, you can add either 1 glass of water or 1 glass of butter milk (make sure it is not very sour) and keep stirring. Once well cooked, remove from gas, season with corriander leaves and serve warm. Remember that upma becomes lumpy very quickly, so make only when the child is ready to eat. Reheating upma ruins the consistency.
Try this
good Luck

take fresh suji. boil it with fine choped carrot pieces. put one tea spoon of oil in the pan. add mustard salt and a pinch of chilli powder. fry it and add water. pour suji and chopped carrot pieces. cook it until it becomes paste. then serve it. but generally small quantity can be tried with one year child. dont go for large quantity. if it is digested then u can try dal rice etc, for one year child. all the best.

I make something called Rava Kheer- basically you roast the suji in a little ghee and then cook the sooji in double the amount of milk, not water, to a cereal like consistency. Add the required amount of sugar in the end. My kids both loved it.
