Well, I just don't feel the need. Also, it used to be we weighed the vegetables in the veggies section, so if I would've eaten any I'd still have paid for them (same as when I'd open a bag of cookies or whatever) but nowadays they do the weighting of veggies and fruit at the checkout counter... so eating anything in the store would be bad manners indeed unless they were priced per basket instead of per weight. I have *very* occasionally opened a package of cookies on the road, although usually after going through checkout, but I find it inconvenient to carry open packages; out of the few times I've done it, I've ended up with crumbs and spills several times. So I'll usually wait until I get all the way home even if I wouldn't be snacking on the store's money.

I wouldn't worry about eating a few un-washed fruits, at home I'll often enough pick off a few without washing them. But I prefer ecologically grown foods that don't have nasty pesticides on them!

Only grapes and cashews.

If you go and get them first, you can snack while walking around the isles. The benefit here is that as these items are weighed to calculate their cost, you will get them cheaper buy the time you get to the check out as they won't weigh as much.

Alternatively, you can go back before checkout and get some more to replace the ones you ate, so you in the end get a free snack while shopping and still take home the same original amount!

Good huh!

i sometimes will have a soda or something from the bakery (if i'm starving)....but i always pay for it.....i had a friend that would feed her kid while she did the shopping, and tell her to hurry up and finish eating before she got to the checkout so that she didn't have to pay.....it really bothered me

(also...my mom used to always eat a couple of the grapes when she bought them, cuz she wanted to make sure they weren't sour)

I used to work at a supermarket that was "hands-on" friendly about the food policy; it was encouraged. So it's okay to eat while you're shopping, as long as you pay.(legally) Personally, do watcha want. I eat & pay.

I have seen people arrested or thrown out of the store for snacking while shopping.
So, my answer would be I have never and would never snack while shopping.
