it is simply a way to show affection. some breeds are more prone to it then others. also, it could be your dogs way of showing that it is submitting to you as the "alpha"!

Some dogs like the taste of ear wax. Don't let them lick your ears. You'll get diseases from an animal known for eating poop of cats and licking its own behind.

my dog likes to lick my ears too. i think that it has to do with being decendants from wolves because the shows i've seen on wolves, when they greet each other they lick each other's faces. i'd say your dog is just trying to say, "hey, i missed you" or "i'm glad that you're here and part of my 'pack' "

licking around the face means your dog is still locked in puppy behaviour, it will do this to the mother to get fed. yes it means it likes you and thinks of you as its mother but you need to discourage it. puppy behaviour carried on into adulthood will keep your dog locked into a juvenille state of mind
