Living style:
-Jakarta is a metropolitan city so we can find a lot of entertaintment places such as; big pubs, cafes, pleanty of big shooping malls, beach (Ancol), fantacy world like a disneyland, for beautiful scheneries we can go to Puncak, Bogor or Bandung, about 1 to 3 hours away from Jakarta.
-There are business district along the Sudirman road with high buildings and multinational companies.

Cost of Living
-Private apartment about Rp 5 million per month or US$500 per month
-Meal about US$20 per person per day ( middle class restaurants)
-Transport US$5 per trip (25 kilometer).

hope this helps.

My friend came to Jakarta as an expat and he spent at least $1,000/ month for rent, food, gas etc.

My cousin came to Jakarta for student exchange, she could live ok with less than $250/ month.

So it depends on you what kind of style of living you'd like to have.

living style? jakarta is a metropolitan city with lots of malls or shopping places. nightlife is very common, we have a lot of nightclubs.
traffic is very heavy during rush hours. meanwhile, public transportation (bus) is poor. i wouldn't recommend you to take the public bus...
recently developed was the "BUSWAY", but it doesn't cover the whole city yet. taxi is very expensive therefore i recommend you to rent a car, there are a lot of car rental with reasonable price.

the cost of living in jakarta varies from very cheap to very expensive,
apartments ranging from 500 to 3000 USD per month, depends on the quality and location.
rental cars will cost around 100 to 500 USD per month, try Blue Bird Group, a driver is included.
a decent meal in a restaurant will cost you around 5 to 10 USD.
as for having fun in jakarta could cost around 100 dollar per month (also depends on your interest)
