You can make an audio-oscillator from 2 transistors, 4 resistors, 2 capacitors and an old speaker from a radio or headphones. You can vary the frequency by using a variable resistor (potentionmeter). Make it oscillate in the audio range from say 100 Hz to 10,000 Hz.

Use the 'astable ocillator' circuit on page 2 of this pdf file. I think you put the speaker in place of one of the LEDs.
