There is not any oil in Korea. If there was, you better believe our president would find a reason to attack.

God I hope not they kicked our butts the first time and will this time. Don't you all know weapons including nukes mean nothing if you have enough people? During Nam, the NVA overran base after base and all the weapons in our arsenal could not stop them. In October 1950, China entered the Korea war and kicked our butts. They dared us to drop the atomic bombs on them. They knew their population was so large that for us to be able to put a dent in it would have caused so much atomic energy to have been expended the world as we knew it would have ceased to exist. Well, they have even more people now; we would have a hard time using nukes on North Korea, as due to their proximity to South Koreas we would be killing an ally. The North Koreas rolled over the South in 1950 but would have a harder time this time but would prevail. Japan has a non-aggression Constitution but I believe they would have to come to the aid of the South. If not and the North wins and eventually rolling over Japan. I don't think American could stop them this time, too much political correctness plus big brother China. No, North Korea would not be someone anyone should wake up!
By the way this is the Army War College not me.

God Bless You and Our Southern People.

This is an easy one fellas.
1. The United Nations has never passed a resolution that included military action against North Korea concerning nuclear weapons research.
2. North Korea is still active in talks with all parties concerned, (including their eternal enemies Japan).
3. The current leader of North Korea is not actively pursuing a policy of genocide against those ethnic minorities that reside within his borders.
4. The United Nations has not had a commission that has been monitoring their programs for 12 years with no co-operation or positive results from monitoring.
5. The current leader of North Korea has not LIED to inspectors from the United Nations about his weapons program in such a way as to mislead the entire world on his holdings of weapons of mass destruction.

Too much of US military force is currently tied down in Iraq and Afghanistan to make an invasion of North Korea possible.

Even if it wasn't, the North Korean army is huge: 1m soldiers on active service and 1.7m in reserve. To this you can add a militia of c4.1m men and women with considerable military training. 4,000 tanks, 11,000 artillery pieces.

Although China is no longer the staunch supporter of N Korea that it was in the 50s, it is unlikely that they would tolerate a US invasion.

In short, US military planners probably recognise that an invasion of N Korea would be a disaster.

Because this woudl be fighting in three theaters at one time. This is a bad military idea. In addition to this, the Korean Military has as many boots on the ground as we have in our whole military and woudl be backed up by the most popluous nation on the face of this earth. Could we win against North Korea --- Yes. Would it be extremely costly --- VERY VERY COSTLY in BOTH LIVES AND MONEY and it woudl be a LONG WAR. N. Korea needs to be handled differently than Iraq because it is a different situation than Iraq.

Compare the Two nations.

NORTH KOREA has not attacked another nation for over 50 years. IRAQ attacked both IRAN and KUWAIT in the past 30 years.

NORTH KOREA has not used any WMDS on anyone.
IRAQ has used WMDS on the IRANIANS and its own KURDS.

NORTH KOREA for the most part, has not had any major violations of the ceasefire agreement that ended the Korean War.
IRAQ has violated practically every provision of the ceasefire that ended the Gulf War.

NORTH KOREA has not tried to kill an American President.
IRAQ tried to kill President Bush (1)

NORTH KOREA did not try to get control of a vital resource to the USA.....(OIL)
IRAQ has tried in several different fashions to control the oil supply.

NORTH KOREA captured the USS PUEBLO, killing only one sailor.
IRAQ just blew the **** out of the USS STARK, killing 37 of our sailors.

NORTH KOREA has not been directly tied to any terrorist group.
IRAQ not only supported terrorists, SADDAM bragged about it.

NORTH KOREA has a WMD that it dares not use. ALL of the nations around North Korea can beat the crap out of them.
IRAQ has WMDs and showed it does dare use them. Most of the nations around Iraq are smaller and unable to defend themselves against it.

Lasty,

NORTH KOREA has show that it is not full of insane homicidal killers who attack at the drop of a hat. You can actually insult them to your hearts content and they do not go nuts on you.
IRAQ has shown that it IS full of insane homicidal maniacs who not only attack "the enemy" but seem to have no problem with murdering their own people.

Enough reason?

Because the North Koreans can hold the city of Seoul as a hostage.

North Korea has sited enough MRLs and artillery within range of South Korea's largest city to kill 50,000+ civilians in a few hours (more if they use chemical weapons).

This is why the South Koreans are so scared of any military action.

N.Korea is insane, and will attack everything it can. the population consists of army conscripts, they are dangerous. they are united till death, and an invasion of attack will be defended.

Saddam was dangerous, but the country was divided. so an invasion would be both welcomed and hated.

better odds of success in iraq, with fewer casualties. even though it is wrong and has been a failure.

The US invaded Iraq because it was the only way to uninstall a corrupt regime that was aiding neighboring countries friendly to terror, including Iran and Pakistan. This is relevant with regard to NoKo because they had entered into cooperative agreement with iran for the purposes of developing a nuclear weapon. Since the supplies have been cut from North Korea because of UN sanctions and they no longer are freely able to acquire enrich uranium from Iran any violence that occurs because of this international political dynamic will be largely contained.

China is keeping N Korea in check. If China feels N Korea is going to effect their relationship with the western world, they will put a stop to whatever they are doing. The US is keeping their eye on Korea, I have no doubt about that.

There are themes that are constructive to the leaders of Iran, not least of it is procuring nuclear weapons to end the oft-repeated threat to get rid of Israel from the face of the earth. the concept we would desire to in straight forward terms attack Iran in pursuit of 'oil', and so on. is nonsense. There are no plans at this portion of attack Iran, besides, or a minimum of any that are going to materialize any time right now. Israel would desire to run out of staying capacity, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, and evaluate the repeated threats and progression in getting nuclear palms severe sufficient to habit air strikes to postpone/avert it from occurring.
