Studies done by the University of Michigan, and featured on the Discovery Channel program, The Amazing Life of the Human Brain, shows that our brains have this capacity. It is based on the average development of synaptic connectors compared to the available room for them. What use would this be if man (and woman) was not meant to live on Earth forever?

That's like standing in front of burning building and asking "what use is this waterhose when I have the ability to spit".

Isa.65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

I think we also have the ability to get on with every thing pleasant that is intended for us to have, and not remenber that which is unpleasant. Birth pains are terrible, but the baby so wanted will not allow the pains to be remembered.

The things here that can be unpleasant, will probably require the help of Jesus and his Father who wants all that love them to be rid of all that is unpleasant. 1Cor.2:9;
2Pet.3:13; Just as it takes them to bring back the life sustaining earth that was perfect before Eden, and before the flood and this involves a large space in the heavens, but all that is holy is all that will remain in the new heaven, and all that is just is all that will remain on the new earth, after all is cleansed. Rev.21:1-5 All made new.

PROMISE TO ISRAEL THAT THEY WILL KNOW

Eze.37:12 Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. Eze.37:13 And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves, Eze.37:14 And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD.

Rev.20:1-6,12,13, No Satan for 1000 years. Rev.20:7-10 [ No Satan ];

No Satan and no Gog or Magog. We will not have to wonder, why did they do that?

It means we would have alot to reflect upon, which would make one feel powerless and sublime, if not on earth!

I think too, that it is paradox, that we have this capability and for what? Most features, attributes and organs (apart from the appendix) have a function, so why, would "the creator" give us such an amazing memory capacity, if we would never have the chance to use it to its full?
The use of this we could only find out if we should ever happen to find the key to life's secrets!

This is an amazing illustration of the following Biblical principle

Romans 3 v 23
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Before man sinned God created us to live on Earth forever - but now that all have sinned, we have short of this glory. But God has created a new heaven and a new earth that all that are redeemed from this earth through faith in Christ Jesus and repentance can live there forever:

Romans 3 v 24
Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

and Romans 3 v 26ff says that He is
... the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

Well if you believe in reincarnation, we would need that. Plus when we die they claim we remember and understand everything, maybe we carry over what has happened in a past life to help us with a new one. I am sure it is there for a reason. Maybe you need to ask God when you get there. LOL

we have come to a point that we can ascend to a higher level of thought, something more than any faith can take us to, the book of thomas explains this, jesus spoke things that were coded, things that if we realize nothing is hidden, that we could truly follow him, not just on being a rightious person, but find our path to where he is........ im sure there are catholics just spinning over this one, but oh well

When we get to Heaven, we don't have to worry about storing memories; we're gonna think like Jesus!

The soul will live on eternally somewhere. According to what I've read we'll maintain all our capacities.

10,000 year of memory is about 9,930 more years than what I need.
