Somewhere around 1900 my great great grandfather stowed away on a boat leaving Ireland bound for the US. He was an illegal immigrant, and I would not be her today if not for that.
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.
“The New Colossus” written by Emma Lazarus.
I think it's pitiful we no longer stand by that phrase, that we have no compassion for those less fortunate. That we have turned our backs on the very people who need us the most.

No I wouldn't.
The majority of men and some women in my family, have served in the military. From WWI to this current fiasco in Iraq.
No one in my family has EVER been on welfare.
No one in my family has EVER been in a gang.
Everyone in my family speaks English...and has always done so.
My family, from the time they got here until present, has always given back more to the community than they have taken.
My family has always loved this country.
If the illegals say that they have done those things as well...then yes...my opinion would change.

Well if your irish something or like that then its likely that your family were once illegal immigrants a lot of irish came to the u.s.a during the potato famine. They faced a lot of the same discrimination that the mexicans are right now.
if they would legalize the people here there wouldnt be complaint about them free loading cause they would be taxpayers.

Shocked and surprised since my grand father on my mother's side lied to get into the US Army at age 15 and my grandfather on my father's side was in the Civil Service during WW2. I would still feel the same about illegl aliens as I do today. On both sides of my family, my ancestors fought for this country. What do illegals do today? They demand welfare. They demand the rights of citizens. They demand. What did my ancestors do ? The served this country. Big difference. I respect any person who serves this country, be them legal or illegal. I woudl deport any illegal who did otherwise. Illegal is illegal. Live upto the law. Be responsible for your own actions and stop demanding that which is not yours.

To save face most of these anti-immigrants will say that they would turn in their own mother. But when the time of truth comes, they are every bit just as we are pro-immigrant (legal or illegal).

Well it goes like this, My great grandfather came to America in 1890 on a boat from Germany. He had to learn English to survive in this wonderful new world. He was always thankful for the opportunity presented to all in the US. He gave back to the comunity, He built a church on the hill of our familys property, and donated it to the comunity. Now there is a town around that church.
If I need help and someones life hangs in the ballance, I now have to press a number to continue in English.
Why, would I have to do that...............
Listen, I understand that everyone came from somewhere to get to the US, aside from the Native Americans of course.
They all made a choice to be Americans.
Let them, Make them, go thru the same process as everyone else. Coming here and exploiting the US, should be considered an act of terrorism.

I would ask for deportation back to Poland as I do not belong here.
I think only a hypocrite would want one thing while yelling because someone else took what they could not under other circumstances.

For a moment, I would stop and think deeper about that turning point that decided my destiny. From reviewing history, people who climb out of a "hell hole" will most likely want thos ethey left down there brought up quick, real quick. Probably, I would give them a bigger ear.

If it changed my opinion it would not be because it made it right but because I then would have benefitted by the crime.
It is impossible in my case.

Well, yes of course I would. Just because something happened to someone in your family, that shouldn't change the way YOU feel about something.
