It's very hard to give an accurate impression because nobody can be really sure about how many people smoke.

Hello =)

Well, if you smoke for any length of time...say 10, 20 years or so, your chances go from less than 1 in 1000 to more than 1 in 10....

People who don't ever smoke just don't seem to get lung cancer, unless they work around carcinogenic substances.

If you're talking about just having a cigarette now and then with your friends, well, there's no real increase.......

Namaste, and Happy New Year,

--Tom

Lung cancer is the malignant transformation and expansion of lung tissue, and is the most lethal of all cancers worldwide, responsible for up to 3 million deaths annually. The most common histologic type is bronchogenic carcinoma, constituting about 90% of all lung cancers. Although lung cancer was previously an illness that predominantly affected males, the incidence in women has been increasing in the last few decades, which has been attributed to the rising ratio of female to male smokers. Currently, lung cancer is the leading causing of cancer death in women, overshadowing breast cancer, ovarian cancer and uterine cancers combined.[1] However, it is of note that there are certain types of lung cancers that appear in otherwise healthy patients who has never smoked.

Current research indicates that the factor with the greatest impact on risk of lung cancer is long-term exposure to inhaled carcinogens. The most common means of such exposure is tobacco smoke.

Treatment and prognosis depend upon the histological type of cancer, the stage (degree of spread), and the patient's performance status. Treatments include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy.

I don't know the exact statistics. It depends on a lot of things though. How much you smoke, what you're smoking (tobacco or marijuana) and your genetics (for example, are you more susceptible to cancer?)

It is safe to say that your chances of dying from a smoking-caused condition is very, very high. If not lung cancer, it could also be emphysema, infection due to gangrene, heart disease...

There are high chances of hving cancer if u smoke. It closes the capilaries of ur Lung & reduce ur immune power & will cause cancer.
To keep ur capallaries active pl do Kapalabhati Pranayama
Benefits: cleansing, invigorating, warming, prevents illness and allergies
This breath consists of rapid, forced exhales followed by passive inhales. It is best done at the beginning of a yoga session. In Kundalini practice, Kapalabhati breath is sometimes done while holding poses.
1. Come to sit in a comfortable crosslegged position.
2. Take two or three deep inhales and exhales through the nose to prepare.
3. Inhale to a comfortable level, and then exhale sharply and forcefully through the nose, drawing the belly in as you exhale.
4. Let the inhale happen passively, and continue this cycle of forceful exhales and passive inhales at a fast pace, so that the belly is pumping continuously.
5. Do three rounds of thirty breaths each, coming back to deep inhales and exhales between each round.
6. Come back to normal breathing if you feel lightheaded at any time

Why risk it? Cancer is one of the worst things you can go through - not to mention - the pain you put your family through as they watch you fight a terrible disease. Some of us get cancer for no reason at all, like myself - at age 17. Some of you ask for cancer by smoking - and maybe get away with it for many years... why would you want to risk your life that way?

This question is unanswerable because there are many different factors involved.
However, your chances of getting chronic pulmonary disease if you smoke are >90%. Compared to emphysema, lung cancer is a quick and pleasant way to die.

PLEASE DO NOT SMOKE. my grandpa died of lung cancer in march and to watch him suffocate in his own body...obviously your chances of getting lung cancer increase when you smoke, but my grandpa had quit smoking over 30 yrs ago! sometimes people who do not smoke get lung cancer as well. I have asthma and have enough trouble breathing and trust me, you do not want to damage your lungs!
