Because they haven't read it for themselves and received a witness from the Holy Ghost that it is true. That would be my guess. Satan deceives and confuses them and they listen to all the slander about the Book of Mormon rather than asking their Heavenly Father if it is true.
I have asked and I know it is.

D&C 6: 22-23
22 Verily, verily, I say unto you, if you desire a further witness, cast your mind upon the night that you cried unto me in your heart, that you might know concerning the truth of these things.
23 Did I not speak peace to your mind concerning the matter? What greater witness can you have than from God?

D&C 8: 2
2 Yea, behold, I will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart.

D&C 9: 8
8 But, behold, I say unto you, that you must study it out in your mind; then you must ask me if it be right, and if it is right I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you; therefore, you shall feel that it is right.

Briefly, people are messing the point that witnesses saw the golden plates, more then enough to even hold true in a court of law today. Sure the 3 main witnesses left the church and disassociated themselves; but they never denied what they saw. Would you believe someone in the organization, or some someone who isn’t, but still profoundly testifies what they saw? That’s why they left, not for that reason mind you; but today we can say that the three main witnesses were not associated with the church and had nothing to gain (but more to lose) by still saying that they saw the golden plates. But they still did till they died.

Another point is that Joseph died for the BoM and what he believed. Why would he go through such humiliation, torture, tribulation, and eventually be murdered by a mob if it was all a lie. For those who don’t believe, like it or not Joseph Smith is a martyr as historical fact; which only makes the BoM and his teachings more true.

Now I’m not saying that Joseph Smith was perfect, no one is. The Bible even talks about prophets like Moses messing up and do things they weren’t supposed to do. But, Joseph die because of what he believed; now; tell anyone that died on the battle field that dying for what you believe in is futile. You can’t, and Joseph is exactly the same way.

People don't believe the Book of Mormon because they are not willing to invest time in it and slowly read it and ponder it. I have read it many times over the past 22 years and also studied W. Cleon Skousen's commentaries on it, and I even started reading Hugh Nibley's "Lehi in the Desert" to learn more. It takes an investment of time the same as it takes to read the Bible. Someone says they haven't found an objective archaeologist to prove Book of Mormon claims. Well, I am finding archaeologist after archaeologist who have done so. One was a Canadian who excavated the ruins of Lamanai in Belize. Another was Joseph Ginad, a Jewish professor with a background in archaeology who documented the Beith Lehi cave in Israel. And there are all kinds of other archaeological evidences if people will slow down and read about what was going on in South American and Central American cultures prior to the arrival of Columbus. Some people are happy just playing half a piano keyboard, but with the Book of Mormon combined with the Bible, you have an entire piano keyboard to work with (as a musical analogy). Have a happy day.

You are wrong.
The Book is not true and that is why people don't believe it. If you look at the history of the writing of the book, there are a lot of contradictions in the story surrounding the book. Add to that the story of James MacPherson in Scotland and the "Ossian Chronicles" and you will see what I mean.
The Bible tells us not to listen to false prophets. If a person brings signs and wonders and tells us to go worship a God other than the Bible, we are not to listen to them. The President of the Mormon church said at General Assembly a couple of years ago that the God of the Mormon church is not that of the Bible! Enough said on that point!

Phil, nowhere in the Bible is a person told to judge whether a prophecy is of God by a physical sensation. Do no stake the destiny of your soul on a burning in the bosom. God knows that before we exercise faith, the thing has to make sense to our minds. He weaved prophecy all throughout the thousands of years of scripture that have been and are being wonderfully fulfilled and also left countless historical facts in His Word that are being confirmed by archeologists more and more as the years pass. No objective non-Mormon archeologist I've ever heard of has once found any evidence confirming the history laid out in the book of Mormon in ancient America. Phil, does it not seem suspicious to you that the Bible speaks of not believing another gospel even if its brought by angels, and this Bible, which has stood the test of time, recorded the original appearance of Christ, and the acts of the apostles is suddenly not to be trusted (according to the angelic or divine messengers depending on which account you subscribe to)?; A man comes along and claims a new revelation, but he claims the Bible is untrustworthy and tainted by bad translation, therefore the new revelation must be accepted over the scripture where they disagree, hence a new gospel. Can you not see the diabolical deception here?

It's made up. Joseph Smith said he went into the woods and had a vision and was told to write a book and have people follow HIM not God or Jesus...the Mormons tell us that they also believe in Jesus and follow the teachings of the Bible too but they can't truely be Jesus' followers because they don't believe Jesus is God in human form...plus the bible states that nothing can be added or removed to it in any form. The Mormons made up another book to follow and are disobeying the Bible's teachings. Plus some Mormons are polygamists and have many wives...Marriage is a union between 1 woman and 1 man as stated in the bible.

Change "Mormon's book" to "The Qu'ran" and ask yourself the question.

Everyone has their own beliefs, they may be right but the fact that everyone else has other ideas suggests that its more likely they're wrong. It's up to the believer to accept their own beliefs and not push them upon other people.

First off, in order to be able to make the claim it's true, you need proof. There is no proof, there is no evidence, only the word of someone with a wild story. Second, using that kind of logic, one may easily say, "Why doesn't anyone believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster if it's real?" There is no proof. You still need to be able to lend credibility to the existence of God, let alone Mormon and his book.

P.S. I have read the book, I am unimpressed.

A prophet of God is 100 per cent accurate. Was Joseph Smith ever wrong. Please do your research. The original writings about his visitations are full of contradictions. The Mormon church has changed positions on many subjects over and over. The Mormon church says that Jesus became God, the Bible says He was always God. The Mormon church says that there is only one God on this planet, but that there are other 'gods' elsewhere and that you can achieve godhood - the Bible is very specific that there is only one God and no others. The contradictions alone should show you that this is a man made religion.

Peace

The book of Mormon does not even claim to be inspired by God or even God breathed as the Bible is. If this was some "new truth" don't you think the bible would have told the Christian's that some one or something new would come or that the book of Mormon would claim to be inspired or written by God. And as others stated, look at the contradictions and changes. Jesus said in the Bible that He is the way, the TRUTH, and the life. No one gets to the Father except through Him.
