I'm recording a conference and making CD's with tracks of all the sessions at the end to hand out to attendees. I want to record the conference on my computer from a soundboard (mixer). What is the easiest software to use for that?
Any free software I could download?
Thanks!

Audacity is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. It is available for Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems

I'll give you two options:

Free -- Audacity. The commenter above me has said everything and more that I would have said.

Free Trial -- Cool Edit Pro (now released under hte name "Adobe Audition"). Free Trial: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Audio/Audio-Editors-Recorders/Cool-Edit-Pro.shtml

Having once had a brief fling as a voice actress, I'd have to say that Cool Edit did better than Audacity at getting my mic levels right on its own and I liked it better that way. Audacity requires you to know a bit more of what you are doing in the mic level department.

However, as you are patching in from a soundboard, hopefully someone there will be an audio whiz on their own so you should be able to do just fine with Audacity.

WavePad(free)
Audacity(free)
Cool Edit Pro (paid, but is great software! My papaw owns a recording studio and uses this! It is now known as adobe audition)
