Ok,one of the BEST video eding programs out there is Sony Vegas 6.0.The catch is that there is a price tag of about 100 bucks for the scaled down(and cheapest)version.Nothing is wrong with the scale down, except for a few limitations, like the max amout of video tracks(4)and audio tracks(3),the full version has unlimited. However,if you just want to edit once, theres a free trial available of the free version at: www.sonymediasoftware.com .Enjoy =)

Before the Great Harddrive Death of 2006, when I had Windows loaded on my harddrive, I swore by Windows Movie Maker (2, not 1). According to PapaJohn (http://www.papajohn.org/), there is nothing that Adobe Premier could do, that couldn't be done in WMM.

However, post Great Harddrive Death of 2006, with me running Linux because my laptop manufacturer won't play nice with repair CDs, I now swear by the Apodio Live CD (http://www.apo33.org/apodio/doku.php).

In fact, you don't have to give up your OS to use Apodio. Just burn off the CD image, and restart your machine with the CD in the drive. It will let you play around with Apodio and then when you are done, pop out the CD and restart your machine and it will have been as if you'd never ever been on in Apodio.

The only catch is that you have to save your videos, images, etc to a flash drive because your hard drive is not touched during the Live CD process.
