Perhaps. The Quran contains so many legends and theological ideas found in Talmudic literature that we are able to draw a picture of the spiritual life of the Jews with whom Mohammed must have come into contact.
It was the Prophet Mohammed himself who attempted to negate the positive image of the Jew that had been prevalent earlier. According to historian Bernard Lewis, the Prophet Mohammed's original plan had been to induce the Jews to adopt Islam; when Mohammed began his rule at Medina in AD 622 he counted few supporters, so he adopted several Jewish practices-including daily prayer facing toward Jerusalem and the fast of Yom Kippur-in the hope of wooing the Jews. But the Jewish community rejected the Prophet Mohammed's religion, preferring to adhere to its own beliefs, whereupon Mohammed subsequently substituted Mecca for Jerusalem, and dropped many of the Jewish practices.
Jews faced the danger of incurring the wrath of a Muslim, in which case the Muslim could charge, however falsely, that the Jew had cursed Islam, an accusation against which the Jew could not defend himself. Islamic religious law decreed that, although murder of one Muslim by another Muslim was punishable by death, a Muslim who murdered a non-Muslim was given not the death penalty, but only the obligation to pay "blood money" to the family of the slain infidel. Even this punishment was unlikely, however, because the law held the testimony of a Jew or a Christian invalid against a Muslim, and the penalty could only be exacted under improbable conditions-when two Muslims were willing to testify against a brother Muslim for the sake of an infidel.

Because there were a lot of prophet and messengers before him, so since Islam is considered the last religion and the completion of all religions before it that is why its important to proclaim that Mohammed is the last prophet to come and he is who God sent.
See, a lot of people did and do not believe in his message claiming that he wasn't sent at all and so on. So part of believing in Allah is believe that Allah had sent the Prophet.
o one more thing: the reason Islam has a lot of similarities with Christianity and Judaism is because Islam completes them, Islam as a religion was copied from other religions, modified and added to by Allah. Because all of the other messages have the same meaning and from one source, that's why for others it may seem that Mohammed tried to "swoon" people from other religions...
There is no worshiping of Mohammed at all.
In a way he is the chosen one..

In no way do Muslims worship Mohammad (PBUH) the whole point of being a Muslim is that we worship Allah and Allah alone. To worship Muhammad (PBUH) would be a great sin. Simply it is a declaration that we believe that he was the final prophet and that we are trusting in Allah's revelations.

It's important to proclaim Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the Messenger of God because he is God's chosen person to deliver the updated religion and book to humanity. He also serves as a role model who exemplifies the way a human being should live on this Earth according to God's design. Many other religions believe in one God... so just declaring the belief in One God does not complete the ideal God has in mind for people. It is accepting Muhammad as the one who will bring you closer to God. It is accepting Muhammad as the true guide as to how to live in this world and prepare for the next life. It is accepting him as your teacher. In no way is it worship. Prayer and worship is for God alone. Muhammad taught us that and he best exemplified it, peace be upon him.

No we never worship Muhammad (peace be upon him). The proclamation is required to testify to the fact of the finality of the Prophets and the end of revelation and the perfection of the religion of God, (it is mandatory for a Muslim to say and believe "There is no deity worthy of worship besides God, and the Muhammad is the last and final messenger"
Believing that is what makes you Muslim.
Taking a Pledge From the Prophets to Believe in Our Prophet, Muhammad
Allah states that He took a pledge from every Prophet whom He sent from Adam until Jesus, that when Allah gives them the Book and the Prophethood, thus acquiring whatever high grades they deserve, then a Messenger came afterwards, they would believe in and support him. Even though Allah has given the Prophets the knowledge and the prophethood, this fact should not make them refrain from following and supporting the Prophet who comes after them. This is why Allah, the Most High, Most Honored, said

(they are the rebellious.) `Ali bin Abi Talib and his cousin `Abdullah bin `Abbas said, "Allah never sent a Prophet but after taking his pledge that if Muhammad were sent in his lifetime, he would believe in and support him.'' Allah commanded each Prophet to take a pledge from his nation that if Muhammad were sent in their time, they would believe in and support him. Tawus, Al-Hasan Al-Basri and Qatadah said, "Allah took the pledge from the Prophets that they would believe in each other'', and this statement does not contradict what `Ali and Ibn `Abbas stated.
Therefore, Muhammad is the Final Prophet until the Day of Resurrection. He is the greatest Imam, who if he existed in any time period, deserves to be obeyed, rather than all other Prophets. This is why Muhammad led the Prophets in prayer during the night of Isra' when they gathered in Bayt Al-Maqdis (Jerusalem). He is the intercessor on the Day of Gathering, when the Lord comes to judge between His servants. This is Al-Maqam Al-Mahmud (the praised station) [refer to 17:79] that only Muhammad deserves, a responsibility which the mighty Prophets and Messengers will decline to assume. However, Muhammad will carry the task of intercession, may Allah's peace and blessings be on him.

once we proclaim Muhammad(p) as His last messenger, means that we are not either the Jews nor the Christians who doesnt accept Muhammad(p) prophethood.
And also by believing Muhammad(p), we believe The Qur'an as God own word, send by God( Allah ) through Muhammad(p).
We do praise Muhammad(p), but we worship God alone.

NONE muslims ever thaught of worshipping Muhammad!!!
Muhammad is just human, a prophets and a messenger. Allah is the only 1 absolute God that muslims worship! Why would we want to worship human? God has no limit such as human have.
Allah has said in Quran:-
Muhammad as messenger and he only received revelations from Allah
Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but (he is) the Messenger of Allah, and the Seal of the Prophets: and Allah has full knowledge of all things. (Quran, 33:40)
Muhammad is the apostle of Allah. and those who are with him are strong against Unbelievers, (but) compassionate amongst each other. Thou wilt see them bow and prostrate themselves (in prayer), seeking Grace from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure. On their faces are their marks, (being) the traces of their prostration. This is their similitude in the Taurat; and their similitude in the Gospel is: like a seed which sends forth its blade, then makes it strong; it then becomes thick, and it stands on its own stem, (filling) the sowers with wonder and delight. As a result, it fills the Unbelievers with rage at them. Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds forgiveness, and a great Reward. (Qur'an, 48:29)
This Qur'an is not such as can be produced by other than Allah. on the contrary it is a confirmation of (revelations) that went before it, and a fuller explanation of the Book - wherein there is no doubt - from the Lord of the worlds. Or do they say, "He forged it"? say: "Bring then a Sura like unto it, and call (to your aid) anyone you can besides Allah, if it be ye speak the truth!" (Qur'an, 10:37-38)
Say: "I have no power over any good or harm to myself except as Allah willeth. If I had knowledge of the unseen, I should have multiplied all good, and no evil should have touched me: I am but a warner, and a bringer of glad tidings to those who have faith." (Qur'an, 7:188)
But when Our Clear Signs are rehearsed unto them, those who rest not their hope on their meeting with Us, Say: "Bring us a reading other than this, or change this," Say: "It is not for me, of my own accord, to change it: I follow naught but what is revealed unto me: if I were to disobey my Lord, I should myself fear the penalty of a Great Day (to come)." (Qur'an, 10:15)
Muhammad is no more than an apostle: many Were the apostle that passed away before him. If he died or were slain, will ye then Turn back on your heels? If any did turn back on his heels, not the least harm will he do to Allah. but Allah (on the other hand) will swiftly reward those who (serve Him) with gratitude. (Qur'an, 3:144)
Same goes with all the prophets before him...
Allah is the only 1 absolute God that Muslims worship.
Islam itself means "Submission to Allah"
In fact.. perhaps u don't realize it, we are not called as Muhammadians as we dont worship him.
But take a look at these followers as they are called based on their "God" or "originator", Christians - based on Crist, Buddhist- based on Buddha, Taoist- based on Tao etc.
