The Mercedes is likely to have reliability issues. That particular year had a lot of problems. The Passat has since been redesigned and is not very reliable either. A 2yr old VW is about as reliable as an 8yr old Toyota. The BMW is a great car, but was probably driven hard and the AWD would be very expensive to maintain and fix. The GTO is kinda plain looking, and the 05 has the less desireable 5.7V8 and probably has the old school 4sp auto.

If it was maintained and babied, I'd do the BMW.

Some other worthy choices:
Infiniti G35 (2003)
Lexus IS300 (2003)

nissan or honda

bmw / mercedes cars are for thos people trying to compinsate for something, my roommate has had bmws all his life, when i drive them it feels like im in a boat. complete oversteer, rough ride. For the money and their rep i think they can do ALOT better
passats are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to keep up with as are the above mentioned, I have a friend with a passat, they are an electrical nightmare. i.e. installing new radio, the engine is so crammed I wanna rip it apart. Its like fitting an elephent into a shoebox
gto have no problems with other than the fact its freaking american and i can run circles around them all day long. they are fun to drive but economicly how many groceries and people can you honestly fit into that car, not to mention on long road trips will you be comfortable?

None of those.

Get an 04 or 05 Acura TL or TSX. Both cars have nice sound systems and are very reliable. The ride is great also. You can probably find a TL thats around 25k and a TSX between 20K and 25K.

My husband has a 2006 Pontiac GTO. Although their fast they have little else to offer. Has no temp. reading for the outside temp, no sunroof, back seat is a nightmare to get in and out of. etc.
