To be in a "Faithful" relationship with God is to have complete communication with God. That means in order to truly have God "reveal" himself to a person, that person communication must be unbroken by sin etc. That is the true essence of Faith, far too many people confuse Faith with Belief.

The traditional church teaches the view that ordinary Christians cannot hear from God, perhaps the specially anointed ones can. This teaching in my view is contrary to scriptures. Jesus said very clearly in John 10:16 that His sheep (all believers) hear His voice. In Revelation 3:20 Jesus again tells the church that if any believer hears his voice He will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Him (the meaning here is speaking face to face). All the seven churches in Revelation 2 and 3 were comanded to hear what the Spirit would speak to the churches (ie the believers). God has given us the Holy Spirit living inside of us to communicate with us to be our guide, teacher and counsellor but most Christians are not taught to acknowledge His presence in them and to communicate with Him. Those who can hear God are on the right track with God. Those who cannot hear has miss out on the Holy Spirit being their Shepherd.

That does open up the precedent that all people who claimed to have heard the voice of god, Muhammad, Moses, Jesus, Abraham, etc. were all just raving lunatics.

I've wondered that myself a time or two. Along the same lines, have you ever noticed that if your invisible friend is named Jesus, you're a rational person, but if your invisible friend is named Bob they want to put you in a straight jacket?
