I'm getting a power acoustik 1920 watt amp...but from my understanding a 12volt battery will not be able to handle that much power coming from it any recomendations

You dont need to upgrade your battery or alternator or anything on your car. All you need is a 4 guage wiring kit and a 1.5 or 2 farad capacitor. The capicitor will act as another battery in a way and will keep your headlights from dimming because they probably will if you dont have one. I run this amp in my stock mercury, with a scoche wiring kit and capacitor from walmart, hooked up to two audiobahn subs. Just get the 4 guage wiring kit and capacitor and everything will be good. You will need a good fuse to. Go to www.cardomain.com and find the fuses. A 200 amp ANL fuse will be good with a ANL fuse block. Thats what i have and i can turn it up all the way and i have no problems. Good luck.

Something to consider...this is an example...

To calculate the current draw of an amplifier, multiply the number of channels by the RMS watts per channel (a 2 channel amp rated at 500 watts RMS per channel would be 1000 watts). Double it to account for amplifier inefficiency (1000 watts X 2 = 2000 watts), then divide by the average output voltage of an alternator, 13.8 volts (2000 divided by 13.8 = 145 amps). Since the average music signal requires about 1/3rd of the average power in a test tone, divide by 3 (145 amps divided by 3 = 48 amps).

This is an average approximation of current draw and it can go higher. So I would gather between 48 and 72 amperes for this
example.

The alternator of a:

compact car is about 35 amps
mid-sized car is about 65-75 amps
SUV is about 145 amps

Calculate 40% of the amperes of the alternator you have now. This is the average current the car uses when running. Add this
number to the approximate average current draw of the amps you calculate, and you will come up with the actual size of alternator you need.

If the number you come up with is the same as what your alternator supplies, you need to take no action.

your understanding is incorrect. the amp doesnt put out that much power. well it might be able to, with about 20 volts. but you dont have 20 volts. and if you did, the rest of the electronics in your car wouldn't run off more then about 15. your battery will work fine, the amp RMS (which is the real power it will put out) will only put out 880 watts, and thats into 1 channel. 2 channels is 440 watts.

dont go by max ratings. there just a flashy unimportant number manufactures use to get people that think that more watts is better, to buy there amp. unfortunatly there are a lot of those idiots out there. dont be one of them. RMS is the only rating that matters when it comes to watts.

Up grade you battery to a dry cell that all that i did and I'm running a 2000 watt amp with 2 TVs if you are worried install a 1 farad capacitor. IM me with any questions
