Just went to the dentist last week and I asked the same question.

I always figured that the electric toothbrushes were just a gimic to get little kids brushing their teeth better.

My dentist told me that the spin brushes clean on average 60% better than manual brushing, but yes he also admitted that they can get expensive if you buy the battery powered type.
The rechargable are your best bet, but they cost more up front.

I'm figuring to find a spin brush, but I'm lazy :)

Manual ones are better because they are cheaper, and you can use your hands to control where it can go. You also lose a few calories doing this.

An electric toothbrush is not only more expensive, but it requires batteries (MORE MONEY), changing of 'electronic parts' (money), and you need to look after them properly (making sure they aren't dropped and damaged). It's also a bit lazy. lol.

I finally bought an electric toothbrush. Boy is it boring! I just stand over the sink and hum while I slowly move that darn thing around while my mind wanders to what problems I can think of! I am going back to my regular kind of toothbrushes. They give me some action and they're not boring.

A manual is much better. Electronic brushes are for lazy people

Manual - you are in total control and I think I get more cleaned - Exception is Sonicare. That is the only electronic brush that I think is worth anything

I say manual because it's cheap

BUT

if you are looking for super-ultra-squeaky clean and to blow some cash, get a oral-b toothbrush
