"If Allah helps you, no one can overcome you; if He forsakes you, who is there, after that, who can help you? In Allah, then, let believers put their trust" (Holy Quran, 3:160)

Let us make the effort to have Tawheed (pure monotheism) truly in our hearts, realizing that there is no god except ALLAH, and that it is only HE who is worthy of worship.

You may ask people to pray for you, and you may ask holy people to intercede for you, and there is nothing wrong with that. It is especially good to seek the intercession of the Holy Prophet, as reported in this hadith:

The Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Go make ablution, perform two rak'as of prayer, and then say:
"Oh Allah, I ask You and turn to You through your Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet of mercy; O Muhammad, I seek your intercession with my Lord...." (Traditional Sunni discussion of this hadith: http://www.sunnipath.com/Resources/PrintMedia/Articles/AR00000010.aspx)

Shirk means to worship God and something else along .
So if you do so then that is Shirk.
And if you believe that others are the savors, or ask help from the dead or anything else but Allah that is Shirk.
there is shirk al asghar ( minor shirk) when you say: I wouldnt have done this without you AND God... because in this case you are combining God with a person where only God can really help you and so on.

P.S: if you need help to identfy if what you are doing is Shirk..I can help you :)
( I study Islam at school )

What exactly are you doing that you think is shirk? Be a bit more specific and you will get a more specific answer. There are hundreds of things that are shirk it would take a long time to type them all.

That's a deep question. Basically, there is major and minor shirk. Major shirk is associating partners with Allah or believing in more than one God.

Minor shirk includes disobeying Allah's commands insistantly (like commiting a minor sin habitually like smoking, drinking, adultry) and not making an effor to rid the sin from your life. By insisting on a minor sin, it becomes a major sin. Shirk can also be making one's ego bigger than Allah.. the biggest idol is the self. By working on purifying your soul and being humble, you can start to diminish the ego.

Best thing is to as a "Sufi" shaikh about such things.

Shirk consists of two counterparts :

Shirk Jali (major shirk)

It is shirik that is done clearly and physically.Example : Grave worship of saints and prophets, asking helps from saints besides G-d, Praising some figures more than G-d, Associating partners with G-d, Believing in Horoscopes and all those future prediction, witchraft and wizardy, believing G-d has a son, daughter or wife.

Shirk Khafi (minor shirk)

It is an unseen shirik. It consist of arrogance, being materialistic (care about wealth of the world) , being rude to people, being so mad about an artists or popstar more than G-d, and many-many more... drinking alcohol, disobeying G-d's command and gambling is considered in this type of shirk...

In mediaeval Europe, women wore the same sort of clothes as Muslim women in the Arab world, for the same reasons as Muslim women now wear Islamic dress - modesty and so forth. Christians do fast, for example at Lent and sometimes Advent. When i was a Christian, i followed exactly the same rules about fasting during Lent as Muslims do at Ramadan. It's also, so far as i know, widely known that Jesus is in the Qu'ran. Concerning the Crusades, there are always political reasons to have wars regardless of religious similarities, Christian countries have often fought each other and it's often the belief systems with the least differences which have the most vehement wars.
