My beagle is a yr old, we just got her a couple days ago, since then we've had people knocking on the door and everything. She doesn't bark, or growl, or, like beagles should, howl, she doesn't whimper or cry. Is my dog mute or something, or is she just really passive?

Most dogs don't bark until they are a year old. Maybe your beagle is a late bloomer. I had a beagle cross that was almost a year and half before he started to bark, then wouldn't stop. Enjoy the peace and quiet while you can. If she doesn't bark by 18 months have the vet check her out but until then I wouldn't worry.

does she seem to hear other things? if she doesn't such as you talking to her or react at all to loud noises take her to the vet. otherwise, how lucky for you beagles are usually known for constant barking, and it's usually a beagle or hound bark that can drive the average person nutty, unless you are a hound lover. if she's fine otherwise, count your lucky stars. since she is a beagle, i would just give her a few more days to get accustomed to her new home. then you'll wonder why you ever thought about worring. good luck.

some people actually have a surgery where they basically paralyze the vocal cords. it is still some what controversial. this is usually done in dogs that are known for being barkers. however, it could be like the previous owners said. they do tend to slack in their first year of life;) take her to the vet. if she had the surgery then they should be able to tell you.

Let your dog to fit in the new space, he will start to bark when he will feel that the place where hy lives is his home and hy must protect it, until then encurage him every time you have the opportunity to bark or growl.(sorry for my bad english)

She probably was trained not to bark, but if you are really worried you could get her checked out by the vet.

You've only had the dog a few days, give her time to settle in & gain a little confidence. She doesn't know you or her surroundings yet.

I would say there might a possibility that the dog might have beat at one time and that's why give him time to adjust to you and your family.
