one that you painstakenly think over, and over, and over

I love tatts, but you really gotta want it for your own reasons, and chose something 100% selfishly for yourself

Make sure that when you are an old granny sitting in your rocker you are not embarrassed by whatever it is that you in your youth decide to get permanently etched onto your body. Or have a really good story worked up to tell the grandkids. Make sure that you go to a reputible place (clean, etc) so that you don't get a disease from the body art. Overall it depends on who you are when you are choosing a tatoo. Think of something that describes you, something you like, etc. Some tatoos can be really beautiful and some are just cheap looking. Also think about where it is gonna be on your body and do you want it hidden or on display and if it is on display will it interfere with what you do for a living. Even though tattoos are very popular in some careers they are banned. Just think it out first.

I always thought the coolest would be to start a sleeve.

At the top have something from early in your childhood, like the outline of an old family portrait, then travel down in chronological order with small images from everything that really meant something to you. leave the bottom of the last item incomplete so you can blend it with the next item.

this way it not only leaves room to add in the future, you get something that not only has real significant personal meaning, it is unque and not just another rose/cross/dragon/tiger/etc.

Be selective - leave anough room to stop 1 arm at the elbow when you are 30-35 before starting the next arm.

Best of all, since it is on the upper half of your arm, you won't have any problems with it interfereing with interviews, meeting the parects of the significant other for the first time, etc. You cna also show it offf any time any where and in any season you want to by just wearing a short sleeve shirt (not so with a thigh, butt, back, etc. tattoo).

Something with meaning even if only to you, even if no one else understands it.And be sure you really want it.You might want to go watch someone get a tattoo so you can understand the process. You will probably be very shocked of how bad it hurts.Everyone knows tattoos hurt but when or if you get one you may never do it again,or you may become addicted.

I have 6 tattoos and no one can see any of them unless i show them. You need to make sure that your tattoo is something that you can live with forever. You need to think about your future jobs and relationships and how you may feel about it later. Rock on!

My first reaction is that if you have to ask that kind of question on a site like this you probably are not mature enough to get one. My second thought being a tattoo owner (took 6 weeks to decide on what I wanted). A tattoo is a very personal piece of art and should reflect what makes you, you. Your like, tastes, morals and personality. It is something you just cant erase if you decide you dont like it.

i've been thinking abouth this same thing for a few months. i finally decided to get a small star(quarter sized) on the side of my foot. tattoos should mean something to you not just something you like now cause as funny as thug life across your chest is now when your 60 its not going to be pretty.

im guessing from the way you say "my first" that you are most likely planning more, so my best advice is dont get a small tattoo because your nervous, because tattoos are addictive and you will just waste good canvas for later....

I was 40 when I got my first one.......i choose a small rose on my ankle. If you are not quite sure what you want go with something small, and place it some where it will not be showing all the time.
