Yes. Twenty years ago, it was a hell hole on New Year's Eve, and you needed to go with a large group of friends in order not to get mugged. No more, ever since Rudy Guillani took over the helm as mayor in the early 1990s, the city has been safe. Rudy threw all the crooks in prison for a long time by tripling the NYPD force.

Yes the city is safe, there are more Police in the Times square area then usual at this time of year. I travel to the NYC area many times for business and pleasure and have never had a problem and have covered many areas from The village to Time Square and China town. When travling with out my family I usually walk to where I have to go.

worked there for 15 years its safe place to be never had a problem. if you are staying at hotel ask where you can and should not go. it like any other city there are a few area that you just dont want to go to

Why would the season make a difference. most cities are as safe as you make them. Go where it is not so safe in them and you are inviting trouble travel on public transport in them when least people are around and you are inviting trouble.

Why woud it be safer or not at this particualry time of the year????? Every city has it safe and unsafe parts of town. If you want to go then just go and enjoy yourself and stop worrying.
