Not a chance! Give the Persian to someone who will not have the issues you'll have with your boyfriend's Pittbull. Please, be kind to the cat.

I have 2 Pitties and 3 cats. When I first bouht my house I had the cats first and Tig was given to me 3 weeks later. This is a dog with very strong prey drive and da who now lives with 3 cats and one other dog peacefully. I followed certain steps to ensure the safety of my cats. First was keeping the cats and dog seperated but Tig knew they where in the house , then letting the cats out so Tig could see them ,but restraining her ,then lastly we let her go when we felt she was calm enough. The whole process took a month and a half. Now Tig is so desenatised to cats I can bring any kitten home and she wont hurt them.Piper my other Pit is very close to Pandora my Main Coon. They hang out together.
It can be done ,it's a slow process. The animals will let you know when they are ready to be together.

the easiest way is a gradual meet and greet. step one) they should be contained in different rooms but encouraged to sniff under the door at each other (they are both naturally curious creatures but they may need some coaxing/reminding.) step two) still in separate rooms but with the door open and both restrained. step three) in the same room but still restrained step four) get gradually closer to one another. you should be able to gage whether or not the pit will except the cat. since they do sometimes have a propensity towards aggression with other animals please do make sure that the pit is fully restrained and that the person restraining can hold him/her back if the dog were to show aggression. go at THEIR pace, not yours!!! there are plenty of books and websites on the matter just goggle it or hit the local library. :) don't listen to all the people telling you to get rid of the cat or it'll kill it. you'll be able to tell if they'll get along or not. not all pit bulls are viciouse towards other animals. just use the steps. like i said you should be able to gage whether or not the pit will except the cat. it may take you weeks to get through all the steps. that's why i emphasize going at their pace and not the pace you want them to go. do the steps and give it some time.

Does the cat sleep with you? I bet the cat does and dog doesn't. Once in a while, pat the bed and let the dog sleep with you and the cat. Then they'll become used to it and before you know it they'll be inseparable. Don't listen to these yahoos- Pit bulls are only nasty if you treat them like pit bulls! He'll probably be protective over the cat!

It depends on how the PB was raised. And how strong an Alpha he has.
My sons PB and his fiances cat ended up best friends... It can happen. Missie ended up being around 3 cats in her lifetime and as far as I know, she only played with them.
It can happen... not all PB's "eat" cats.. NOW be sure not to let kitty "run away from him"... not at first.. hold the cat while being introduced. Any dogs prey drive will kick in if a cat runs from them.
If your cat has not been declawed then wrap it in a towel on the first introduction... don't expect to just let them loose at first.. control the meetings.
GOOD LUCK

You need to watch the Dog Wisperer (Ceasar Milan). You have to show the dog you're the pack leader. If you don't, you could have more serious problems than your dog eating your cat for lunch. I think it's pit bulls that are euthanized in California - and a $500 fine to own one. They are friendly but are very easily taught to be viciously unfriendly. Don't tolerate any training of the pit bull other than routine domestic stuff.

I would say introduce them slowly and in a controlled environment, but frankly you're putting the cat's life at risk. Perhaps you should choose who you want to live with.

A pit-bull by nature is an attack dog, so you better teach your cat to hide in a place the dog can not reach.

They will probably be the ones to remain friends. It's you and your BF, that will most likely end up killing each other!!

If they were not brought up together...
If the cat is not used to dogs...
If the dog is not used to cats....
Then leave it be, don't try and get them to like it.....they're natural enemies.
