The school I'm applying to asks that I fill out a 'Request for Copy of Tax Return' and mail it to them. This is the generic one for all U.S. residents who pay taxes, I believe, and the school will forward it to obtain a copy of my parents' tax returns should they question the legitimacy of the form I already have filled out.

What year(s) do they want the tax returns for? I have either the option of putting 12/31/05, or 12/31/06, but my parents say they have not received 2006's yet; is it plausible that the school might want 2006's when those start getting mailed?

If it's relevant at all, this is a private high school I'm applying to. The largest portion of the financial aid application was for 2005's taxes, but they'd also like 2006's by February 9th.

Any help would be much appreciated, as all schools are closed for winter break! :-)

Ninasgramma is spot on. If they want 2006 by February 9th, they are being a bit forward in my opinion. Most information returns (W-2, 1099, 1098 etc) do not have to be sent to the taxpayer until January 31st. Allow a few days for mail and a few days to get an appointment and you will see that such a deadline is unrealistic for even a simple return. If your parents have a brokerage account, the 1099 packet from them can get revised (and often does) once or twice. Sometimes the amendments aren't issued until March. Try not to let them bully you on that point, although I know that is easier said than done.

Good luck with this.

Put 12/31/2005 and provide them with a copy of 2006 when your parents have completed it. It makes no sense to put 12/31/2006 since the IRS will not have the return.

i'm questioned - do no longer you comprehend the place you sent it? once you're interior the united kingdom, which for some reason i think you're, and you submitted it your self quite than with the aid of an accountant, you will might desire to touch your tax place of work and ask them to deliver a duplicate back to you. in case you artwork, your corporation could have info of your tax place of work. next time, shop a duplicate!! in case you used an accountant, then they might desire to have sent you a duplicate after all. can no longer inform you techniques smart it relatively is to maintain a duplicate from here on out.
