Has anyone adopted an older child? Did you have good or bad experiences?

Question

We are looking to adopt. My husband wants a newborn first and an older child later. And I want to the older child first. He has had some bad experiences with attempting to raise is ex-wife's rebellious children and is not sure he wants to go that route.
